Cree has made another noticeable mark in the world of low voltage LED lighting by creating the first 200-Lumen-per-watt LED luminaire.
Before the lighting manufacturer’s concept lamp was revealed, the U.S. Department of Energy had predicted that there would not be a device capable of achieving this efficiency until 2020. However, Cree was able to beat those expectations by six years with a luminaire that doubles the efficiency of the best fluorescent lighting.
Cree’s concept lamp delivers 3,200 lumens as well as an 80-color rendering index at thermal equilibrium. Additionally, the luminaire was able to hit these high marks while complying with the ANSI color specification for 3000K.
“Demonstrating the industry’s first 200-lumen-per-watt luminaire once again illustrates Cree’s leadership in LED lighting,” said Norbert Hiller, executive vice president of lighting for Cree. “The innovation required to achieve this record performance will usher in a new era of increased performance, quality and affordability for our LED lighting customers.”
As a result of continued innovation and new milestones for the LED lighting systems market, the expanded adoption and improved performance of these lighting solutions can be expected over the next few years.
