Lighting Science's Advantage BR20 LED lamp was acknowledged by the Illuminating Engineering Society Progress Committee for making significant advancements in lighting art and science.
The 2013 IES Progress Report, which details major developments in the lighting industry throughout the year, will feature Lighting Science's award-winning low profile lighting. In the report, there are many products, applications, design tools, publications and research. Judges reviewed nominations and made selections based upon a submission's impact on the international lighting industry.
"Our team at Lighting Science is proud to be included again in the annual IES Progress Report," stated Jeremy Cage, CEO of Lighting Science. "Lighting is obviously one of the most important design elements in any project as it influences both how the space and the people within it look and feel. It is our priority to continue to push the boundaries of what is possible with light."
The IES is one of the most influential authorities on commercial lighting technology. The U.S. Department of Energy is partnered with IES to develop industry lighting standards so that only the best LED lights are on the market.
As demonstrated through their recognition in the 2013 IES report, Lighting Science is at the forefront of LED lighting systems research and development.
New innovation across the industry
Lighting technology is rapidly advancing to create more energy efficient fixtures and controls for facilities managers.
According to FacilitiesNet, there are many options to further improve cost savings with a lighting system retrofit. Upgrading commercial lighting fixtures can yield more energy savings than only replacing the lamps.
"When selecting an LED fixture, it is critical to compare the actual performance of the luminaire, not just the rated lumens of the lamp or fixture, as LED (luminaires) generally will yield superior results," stated General Electric's Global Product Manager John J. Brelus.
New fixtures are better at distributing lumens so that a facilities manager can get the most light out of the lamps.
LED fixtures also provide more uniform lighting. With an upgrade, there will be fewer fixtures to monitor. Cutting down the number of fixtures reduces maintenance time and costs. Low voltage LED lighting has a long service time that significantly lessens replacement costs when coupled with a lower quantity of fixtures.
