The work that the Monterey Lighting Solutions team puts in each day helps support our goal of bringing more transparency to the lighting process — from start to finish. When they’re not showing clients the smarter way to source lighting, our employees have their own hobbies and interests that shape who they are today. In our Employee Spotlight series, we introduce some of the faces that make up Monterey Lighting Solutions.
1. Where did you grow up and where are you based now?
I grew up in San Diego, CA. I met my wife in high school and we’ve been married for 38 years now. We live in Pine Valley, which is in the eastern part of San Diego County.
2. What do you do at Monterey Lighting Solutions?
My role as a Senior Account Executive is to connect with clients, explain the Monterey Way, assist with product selection and unit pricing, and manage the process from design to delivery – all with the support of the awesome Monterey Lighting team.
3. What brought you to Monterey Lighting?
I was contacted by Rick Welsh, the Vice President of Sales. He explained what made Monterey Lighting different from all the other distributors, their unique processes, and support structure. The core values of Monterey Lighting aligned with my desire to make the process of specifying, ordering, and delivering lighting products as straightforward as possible.
4. What does the “Smarter Way to Source Lighting” mean to you?
It means a simpler, more transparent process that all stakeholders – owners, construction managers, architects, and the entire design team – understands. Monterey Lighting is solving the traditional issues in the lighting industry by understanding the project needs, responding in a timely fashion, supplying accurate unit pricing, and being the single entity to orchestrate the needs of the stakeholders.
5. What’s the most exciting project you are working on right now?
It’s not a single project, but the most exciting thing for me is the look on the faces of stakeholders when I explain the Monterey Way and how they will no longer have to accept last-minute substitutions or be told that a specified product isn’t available. Monterey Lighting supplies accurate pricing and availability early in the design phase, so if changes are required, those changes are made at the direction of the design team.
6. What motivates you to wake up and go to work?
My desire to continue being a resource for those needing assistance with their lighting and control needs, and to show that you can be a lighting professional with integrity, whether it be design or sales.
7. What do you like to do in your free time?
Being outdoors with my family and five rescue dogs, hiking, creating and building everything from jewelry to model airplanes to zip lines, and restoring vintage British motorcycles.
8. Tell us something most people would be surprised to learn about you.
I have been writing creatively most of my life, including poetry and children’s books.
9. Best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
“You either win or learn, you never lose.”
