When the Glaukos Ophthalmic medical technology company wanted to renovate its 1990s-era corporate headquarters, it wanted to create a campus that connected the building’s interior with the outdoors while designing for more collaborative and open workspaces. The campus includes three two-story buildings, a lab building, and administrative quarters. The renovation needed to accomplish the client’s aesthetic goals while also meeting the rigorous standards for laboratory clean rooms and R&D space.
To meet the client’s objectives, the design relies heavily upon large windows that allow for ample natural light, as well as a lighting plan that supports the company’s technological sophistication, is appropriate for a state-of-the-art facility, and is pleasing, interesting and inviting. Like all other elements of the design, the lighting needed to strike the perfect balance between tradition and innovation.
In the project’s design phase, the construction management team at Savills brought in Monterey Lighting Solutions to provide reliable, transparent pricing that would help the design team align their budget with the client’s vision. Monterey then provided lighting inventory to the electrical contractor, ALBD Electrical, and supported them throughout the project.
